"BIRD FRIENDLY" EXPERIMENT DELAYED

An experiment to test 40 "bird friendly turbines" in Altamont Pass WRA has been delayed according to the CONTRACOSTA TIMES news.

Nevertheless, the so called "bird friendly turbine" could have two weaknesses, its lower size as compared with the current wind energy industry and their aesthetics, making them less atractive for developers and people.  They are manufactured by Ogin Inc. (USA) and an introductory video is available here. The hub height it is 46 m (151 ft) and the rotor diameter 13 m. (41 ft).

They are much visible for birds, with a lower risk of collision for them and bats as blades are protected. The plan it is to re-power 73 old turbines within Altamont Pass WRA. However, it seems the concern it is much related with the visual impact the may cause.

The picture shows a recreation of the turbines according to Ogin Inc. For further details see www.oginenergy.com
